Gomphidius oregonensus

A large and beautiful mushroom to find, G. oregonesus is edible but slimy. Its texture has prevented me from trying it, so I can't personally recommend it. It grows under Douglas fir, alongside Suillus ponderosus (and other suillus sp.). Tall and firm-fleshed with charcoal gray spores, whitish gills, and bright yellow flesh at the base of the stalk. The specimen on the left in this photo had a 8-inch cap.
